4 reasons why we love a Christmas Market

By Destina Travel

There’s nothing better to get you in the festive mood than visiting a Christmas Market. With markets taking place in fantastic locations all over Europe it’s no wonder they are becoming increasingly popular year upon year.

#1 Soak up the Yuletide Atmosphere

With the smell of cinnamon filling the air, the bright lights of the Ferris wheel, the sounds of carol singers in the background and the array of Christmas treats, Christmas Markets really evoke your senses.

#2 Hearty Comfort Food

Fill up on authentic dishes such as tasty German bratwurst, roasted chestnuts, homemade gingerbread & traditional pastries. Then wash it down and warm your cockles with a mug of Spicy Gluhwein (mulled wine) for a sumptuous Christmas flavour. There’s nothing more enjoyable than walking around the market sampling the delicious Christmas offerings.

#3 Handmade Gifts

Christmas is the time for giving after all, and what better way to spoil your loved ones than with a handmade gift from a Christmas Market. From traditional crafts, scented soaps, candy and chocolate, unusual Christmas cards, to your favourite person’s tipple, there really is something for everyone.  When decorating your tree in years to come you can be reminded of your special trip with Christmas decorations made by hand brought home.

#4 Beautiful Locations

Popular cities visited at Christmas include Munich, Berlin & Vienna, but you can also find Christmas Markets being held in small traditional towns such as Heidelberg or Konstanz. The big cities, however, do tend to offer a number of markets to give you the ultimate festive trip. On a recent trip to Berlin, Dani visited 3 different Christmas Markets in just 3 days! All of these had a unique atmosphere; one surrounded an ice rink, the other featured a festive show and the final one had a hip city vibe.

So why not treat yourself this December and turn the stress of Christmas Shopping into a memorable festive experience. Give us a call here at Destina Travel to plan your perfect Christmas Market getaway.
